Overview
When you process an order but do not have enough stock to fulfil it, the order goes into a part-allocated status. You can “short” the order to close it, using a reason code to explain why the remaining lines were not fulfilled.1
Create a reason code
Go to the Reason Codes section. Create a new reason code and set the type to Short Order Lines.

Activate the reason code
Make sure the reason code is active so you can use it when shorting orders.

Access the Sales Order screen
Find the order that is currently in a part-allocated status.

Short the order lines
Click the Short Order Lines button to begin the process.

Enter the reason code and description
Select the reason code you created and add a description explaining why the order is being shorted.

Confirm the shortage
After confirmation, the order will no longer show as part-allocated.

Review the order status
The order status changes to completed, but the Fulfilment Status changes from PART to SHORT (not FULL, unless all stock was allocated).
