Overview

When you process an order but do not have enough stock to fulfil it, the order goes into a part-allocated status. You can β€œshort” the order to close it, using a reason code to explain why the remaining lines were not fulfilled.
1

Create a reason code

Go to the Reason Codes section. Create a new reason code and set the type to Short Order Lines.
2

Activate the reason code

Make sure the reason code is active so you can use it when shorting orders.
3

Access the Sales Order screen

Find the order that is currently in a part-allocated status.
4

Short the order lines

Click the Short Order Lines button to begin the process.
5

Enter the reason code and description

Select the reason code you created and add a description explaining why the order is being shorted.
6

Confirm the shortage

After confirmation, the order will no longer show as part-allocated.
7

Review the order status

The order status changes to completed, but the Fulfilment Status changes from PART to SHORT (not FULL, unless all stock was allocated).
Once you short an order, it is closed and cannot be re-processed later. If you want to re-process when stock becomes available, do not short the order.
It means closing an order without fulfilling all remaining stock, using a reason code to explain the decision.
It changes from PART to SHORT. It will only show as FULL if all stock was allocated before shorting.
