# Prerequisites for an ASN Export

> Complete setup checklist for automatically generating Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN) files when loads are dispatched, including GLN, storage units, and carrier configuration.

## Overview

To automatically generate an Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN) when a load is dispatched, you need to complete several setup steps. This ensures all required data is present for the ASN file.

## Setup checklist

<Steps>
  <Step title="Set up Global Location Numbers (GLN)">
    Ensure you have the **GLN** for all connected parties, such as **suppliers, consolidators, and depots**. These are vital for tracking locations in ASNs.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up storage unit types">
    Create at least one storage unit type using one of these codes: **DOLLIES**, **EURO**, **CHEP**, or **SEMI**.

    <Warning>Only orders with these specific storage unit types will be recognised by the ASN file.</Warning>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up delivery addresses">
    For each delivery address, enter the depot's **ANA/GLN** into the **External System Reference 1** field. This populates the **LOC segment** of the ASN.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up accounts">
    In the account setup, populate **External System Reference 1** with the **supplier ASN number** (for consolidated ASNs). This populates the **PIA segment of type DEL**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up carriers">
    Add an **External System Reference 1** for each required carrier. The system checks for values in this order:

    1. Carrier external system reference and name
    2. Consolidator ID and name (if set on the event trigger)
    3. Supplier ID and name (if provided)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up an FTP user">
    Create a new **FTP user** with the direction set to **Download** for ASN files.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Contact support for event trigger setup">
    Once the above steps are complete, contact support to set up the event trigger. Provide the following:

    **Required:**

    * **FTP User ID** -- where the ASN files will be created
    * **Customer ID** -- for which the ASN will be created (one event trigger per customer)

    **Optional:**

    * Consolidator ID and Name
    * File Name Prefix (default is "ASN")
    * Supplier ID and Name
    * Secondary Consolidator ID
  </Step>
