# Create a Site

> Create a site to represent a physical location and organise one or more warehouses beneath it.

A site represents a physical location — such as a building, campus, or distribution centre — that one or more warehouses reside within. Sites sit at the top of the hierarchy: **Site → Warehouse → Location**. You should create your site first, then create warehouses within it.

## Creating a site

<Steps>
  <Step title="Navigate to Sites">
    Go to the **Settings** tab and select **Sites** from the options.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a new site">
    On the Sites screen, click **New** to start creating your site.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter site details">
    Provide the following information:

    * **Site code**: A unique identifier for the site
    * **Name**: A descriptive name for the site
    * **Default site**: Whether this should be the default site
  </Step>

  <Step title="Activate and configure the site">
    Once created, the site becomes active. You can then assign multiple warehouses to it and add address details.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Use sites to group warehouses that share a physical location. For example, if you have two warehouses in the same building, create a single site for that building and assign both warehouses to it.

## Frequently asked questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What is the difference between a site and a location?">
    Sites and locations operate at different levels of the hierarchy and represent very different things:

    * A **site** represents a physical place (a building or campus) that contains one or more warehouses. It is an organisational grouping.
    * A **location** represents a specific storage position *inside* a warehouse — for example, a racking bay, shelf, or bin. Locations are where stock is physically stored and picked from.

    In short: sites organise your warehouses, locations organise your stock within those warehouses.

  <Accordion title="Can I assign multiple warehouses to one site?">
    Yes. A single site can contain any number of warehouses, which is useful when multiple warehouse operations run from the same physical location.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What details are required to create a new site?">
    You need a site code, a site name, and you can optionally set it as the default site.
