Overview

HHD Settings let you switch optional behaviour on or off for your Handheld Device (HHD) flows without rebuilding the flow itself. Each setting is a named on/off switch identified by a short code, for example receipt_input_batch. A handheld flow can check whether a setting is switched on and then show or skip a screen accordingly. This means two accounts can use the same HHD implementation but see different screens, such as one account being asked for a batch when receiving and another not. Each setting has four properties:

Usage

A setting is applied when all of the following are true:
  • An HHD implementation has been set up to look the setting up.
  • The setting is Active.
  • The setting is Global, or the account being used has been assigned to it.
To use a setting in a flow, add the Retrieve HHD Settings component to your implementation. It looks up one or more settings by code and returns a true or false value for each one. You can then use those values in conditions to decide which screens users see. See Adding conditions to HHD implementations for how conditions work.
HHD flows are configured per customer. Creating a setting makes the behaviour available to configure. It does not change anything on a device until a flow is set up to use it.

Suggested settings

When you create a new setting, a Suggested Settings list offers ready-made settings for receiving:

Setup steps

1

Open HHD Settings

In the main menu, open Handheld Devices and select HHD Settings. The list shows every setting with its code, description, and whether it is active and global.
2

Start a new setting

Click New.
3

Choose a suggested setting or create your own

  • Suggested setting: in the Suggested Settings list, click add next to the setting you want. It is created straight away as active, and you are taken to its page.
  • Your own setting: in the General panel, enter a Code and Description, choose whether it is Active? and Global, then click Save.
4

Assign accounts (non-global settings only)

If the setting is not global, open the Accounts panel on the setting’s page. Click Assign Account, choose an account, and repeat for each account that should use the setting. To remove an account, use Unassign Account on its row.The Accounts panel is hidden for global settings, because they already apply to everyone.
5

Use the setting in a flow

Open your HHD implementation and add the Retrieve HHD Settings component. Enter the setting’s code, then use the returned true or false value in a condition on the screen you want to control.

Changing or removing a setting

  • To pause a setting without losing it, open it, switch Active? off, and save.
  • To remove a setting, select it in the HHD Settings list and click Delete.
Codes are matched exactly, so the code in your flow must be identical to the code on the setting.
