Works orders overview

A works order combines individual products from a Bill of Materials (BOM) to create a new parent product. You create the order in the web interface and then process it using an RF scanner.

Prerequisites

Before creating a works order, make sure:
  • All products are in the system — verify they are entered in Clarus WMS.
  • Stock is available — ensure products are booked in and you have sufficient quantities.
  • The BOM exists — create the Bill of Materials listing all items required to make the parent product.

From the home menu, select Goods Out, then Works Order.

Convert by output quantity

This account setting controls how conversion tasks are generated when you process works orders. Find it in the Conversion section of your account settings. It determines whether the system creates one conversion task per pick task, or one per child product per job.
SettingBehaviourBest for
OffOne conversion task per pick taskBulk conversions without detailed individual tracking
On (recommended)One conversion task per child product per jobDetailed stock tracking and full auditability
This setting does not affect pick tasks — it only changes the number of conversion tasks created.

Example: Xbox and Cyberpunk 2077 Bundle

Your BOM product requires one Xbox and one Cyberpunk 2077 (output quantity: 1). A works order for 10 bundles creates 2 pick tasks. Off: 1 conversion task for Xbox + 1 for Cyberpunk 2077 = 2 total. On: 10 conversion tasks for Xbox + 10 for Cyberpunk 2077 = 20 total.

Example: Tin Can Telephone

Your BOM product requires 1 Wire and 2 Tin Cans (output quantity: 1). A works order for 10 telephones creates 3 pick tasks. Off: 1 conversion task for Wire + 2 for Tin Can = 3 total. On: 10 conversion tasks for Wire (qty 1 each) + 10 for Tin Can (qty 2 each) = 20 total.
