Customising Putaway Rules

Putaway rules determine how products are routed to storage locations during the put-away process. Every product starts with a default rule, and you can add custom rules to optimise your warehouse layout.

Default Rule

A default rule is automatically created for every product. It sorts by Code in Ascending order, meaning products are put away by their code starting with the lowest value. This rule cannot be deleted.

Adding and Configuring Rules

Open the putaway section

Navigate to your stock account setup and open the Putaway section.

Add a new putaway rule

Click + New Putaway Rule. A new row will appear below any existing rules.

Select a rule type

Choose one of the following rule types from the dropdown:
Pickface Proximity — stores products near a pickface.Remaining Height — prioritises locations with available height.Walk Sequence — orders products based on the walking route through the warehouse.

Set the rule direction

Choose a direction for the rule:
  • Ascending — smallest to largest (e.g. closest proximity, lowest remaining height)
  • Descending — largest to smallest

Save the rule

Click Save at the end of the row to apply the rule.

Reorder or delete rules

Drag and drop rows to change the priority order. Click the Delete button next to a rule to remove it.
Rules are applied in the order they appear. Drag rules higher in the list to give them higher priority.
Can I create multiple putaway rules for a product?Yes. You can create and customise multiple rules, and they will be applied in the order you set.Can I delete the default rule?No. The default rule is automatically created, but you can add additional rules above or below it.Can I edit a rule after saving it?Yes. You can change the rule type or direction, or delete it entirely using the Delete button.
